Nextcloud commands

Files, folders, shares, users, groups and quotas on the Nextcloud server. Staff only, unless allowed for a client.

Run each as one terminal line starting with $ , with real values instead of the examples. Plain text version.

Common tasks

Give a client Nextcloud access in one step (user + password + folder + share + their record):

$ set up nextcloud for client narjis with folder /Gova

Several steps run one at a time: after each you get its result and send the next command (or "done"). Create commands also reuse what already exists (an existing user keeps their password):

$ create user narjis
$ create folder /Gova
$ share /Gova with narjis edit

Decide from a result: search first, then create only if it was not found, then share:

$ find folder TestMe
(result: No folder named like "TestMe")
$ create folder /TestMe
$ share /TestMe with narjis edit
done

Find a folder when you only know part of its name:

$ find folder alex

See inside a folder (with one level of subfolders):

$ list folders in /Clients

See the files in a folder, with sizes and dates (one level):

$ list files in /Clients/Acme

Users and passwords: a new user gets a strong random password, or the one you type; either way the login is sent to you privately. A password you type is never shown back, logged or sent to a brain (delete your message afterwards):

$ create user sara
$ create user sara with a random password
$ create user sara with password Blue-Cedar-2026
$ reset password of sara
$ set password of sara to Blue-Cedar-2026

Check access: who sees a folder, and what a user can open:

$ who can see /Gova
